2009 12U Upper Loudoun Liberty All Stars
Anyone who knows me is aware of my passion for youth sports…I have been cheering my kids on from the sidelines of football and softball for years now. Last July, my daughter’s 10 and under all star team played host to the Babe Ruth National Invitational Tournament, and this year, they are hosting the 12 and under Virginia State Tournament from July 2nd to July 6th at Woodgrove Park in Round Hill. There will be 12 teams competing from across the state, so there will be a lot of great softball going on!
I’ve watched Erika progress from playing ‘coach-pitch’ as a 5 yr old to an accomplished 12 and under all star. My husband Mike coached most of those seasons, so it has been a true family experience for us. This year, I realized that I had something to contribute too…I played softball from elementary school all the way up through college, and had the privilege of donning a Division I jersey to play for the Maryland Terrapins, as the highlight of my softball career. Erika is playing on a level now where I can really help. This summer, I stepped on the field as Coach Heather. <grin> So far, I’m thinking that coaching is just as fun.
If you’d like to come watch the Upper Loudoun Liberty 12U team play at the tournament, please stop by! I can’t wait to see how my girls play! Here’s a shoutout to our team: Big Stick (that’s my daughter), Crunch, Mouse, Bust, Shortie, Mae Mae, JoJo, Flash, Lefty, Boom Box, Wheelz, Pretzel, and Christmas. Go Liberty!
Cheers,
Coach Heather
(yes, I missed the team picture..I was showing houses…)

I was paging through last week’s print edition of the Loudoun Times Mirror, and came across a full page ad from Lennar, a home builder, that announced that they were coming back to Martin’s Chase. They had stopped building there last year when the market was stagnant for new home construction. Is this another sign of market recovery?
I spoke with a Lennar representative this morning, who said the sales center is open on weekends from 1 to 5, but they are hoping to be open on weekdays at some point in the near future. They have one spec home under construction now that isn’t sold, and are planning a 9 lot release for July 1st…although you can reserve one of those lots now, and then write the contract to purchase next month.
If you would like more information on this community or other new home communities in Loudoun, please call or email me!
Cheers,
Heather

I happen to think I have the most wonderful dad on the planet, and I’m very much wishing I was with him today…Here’s a bit of a tribute to show how special he is to me!

Company 2's New Digs
A short wrapup of news and notes around LoCo lately:
On the agenda for the Board of Supervisors public hearing on Monday, June 8th is a “Special Exception to permit a 75,000 square foot recreational facility for use by a professional minor league baseball team (Atlantic League)” as part of the proposed Kincora development at the intersection of Routes 28 and 7. The Leesburg Today wrote about the issue here. (The descriptive quote is straight from the Board’s agenda for the meeting.)
The cover story for the Loudoun Times Mirror this week called a shift in the real estate market to a seller’s market, based on shorter days on market and an upswing in the number of sold homes. You can read their take on the situation here.
The Purcellville Volunteer Fire Department Company 2 moved into their new digs at the corner of Maple and Hirst (pictured above) after lowering the flag at their old location on Maple for the last time, and caravaning up to the new spot.
The Friends of Hamilton Park are holding a community fundraiser on Thursday, June 25th: have dinner at the Purcellville McDonald’s between 5 and 8 pm that evening, and 20% of all proceeds will benefit the park.
Cheers,
Heather

Progress!
I drive Sycolin Road between Leesburg and Ashburn every time I go in to my office, and I have to say I’m impressed at the speed at which they are making the road improvements there! I snapped this picture last week, you can see that they have taken out a full lane’s width strip of trees on the side of the road already. Projected finish date is November of this year. (You can read my original post on the road improvements here.)
Cheers,
Heather

While I was out driving on some of the scenic back roads in Loudoun County, I stopped to take a photo…the stone walls and board fencing are a common sight on many roads here. Enjoy!

Loudoun Lilacs
With the ongoing deluge we’ve had lately, at least something good has come out of all that water. The lilacs have bloomed beautifully this year! Enjoy the picture while I take a couple days to speak at and attend the National Association of Realtors midyear conference in Washington DC. We’ll be back to our regularly scheduled programming soon!
Cheers,
Heather
